Can I take part in a team?

Of course. The more the merrier!

Teams are a great way to take part in Challenge90 as you can motivate each other and clock up your minutes as a group. How you join a team will depend on whether the team is public or private.

If the team is public, you can search for the team’s name and click the “Join us” button. If the team is set to private, an existing member of the team can invite you by sending you a joining link. Simply click the link and follow the steps to become a member.

EXERCISE AND CANCER

How is exercise linked to cancer?

Yorkshire Cancer Research has been exploring the impact of exercise on cancer by funding a range of pioneering research and projects across the region. Each year in Yorkshire, 164 new cases of cancer are linked to a lack of regular exercise – and many more cancers can occur by not maintaining a healthy weight. 1 in 5 people in Yorkshire do not do the recommended amount of exercise – making this a key area of focus for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

The emerging evidence shows that exercising before and after a diagnosis can have a significant impact on prevention, survival rates and reduce the risk of cancer coming back. This emerging field of breakthrough research will contribute to our mission of saving 2000 lives each year in Yorkshire.

Why 90 minutes of exercise?

90 minutes is within the World Health Organisation's range of recommended weekly energetic exercise (75 - 150 minutes).

Do I have to do 90 minutes of exercise in one go?

Your 90 minutes could be spread over several days of the week, such as 3 x 30 minutes or 5 x 15 minutes.

What if I already exercise for 90 minutes or more a week?

You can still sign up to log your minutes alongside other Leeds United fans, to build the collective total of 100 000 minutes exercised over the season.

If you’re looking for an extra challenge, use “90” as an inspiration or a goal – such as climbing 90 peaks, doing 90 sit ups, swimming 90 lengths.

What exercise should I be doing?

Any exercise that raises your heartbeat or gets you sweating.

This could include exercise you can do on your own such as fast-paced walking, swimming, running and cycling.

You could also look to exercise as part of a group, joining teams to play football, netball, hockey and more!
