Tour de Walkshire 2021

I’m taking part in Tour de Walkshire this year to help more people survive cancer in Yorkshire.

Every week in Yorkshire nearly 600 people are told they have cancer. Yorkshire Cancer Research is an independent cancer charity funding pioneering research to prevent, diagnose and treat this condition.

This May they’ve teamed up with Welcome to Yorkshire for Tour de Walkshire. I’ve chosen my distance and will be walking, running or cycling to raise money for this vital cause. Please support my efforts and help more people in Yorkshire survive cancer.

My Updates

It begins

Tuesday 4th May
Hi

I am Ian and I am the Senior Technical Specialist at Sheffield Hallam University's  Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre (AWRC), a state of the art facility devoted to improving health and wellbeing through movement. The AWRC has recently been awarded a research project by Yorkshire Cancer Research to deliver a programme of exercise, nutrition and psychology  interventions to help patients diagnosed with cancer. So when the Director of the AWRC came to me and asked if I would be interested in going for a bike ride to raise money for Yorkshire Cancer Research it was only a matter of seconds before I said "Yes! Sign me up". It soon transpired he was talking about the 450 mile 'Beat The Border' challenge, and it was not long after that that we decided to tray and do it i just three days!! As a keen amateur cyclist, I like to think I can cope with most things a bike ride can throw at me, but this will push me to my absolute limit. So follow me on my journey  from my preparations, how I plan to take on the challenge, and of course  how I get on riding the challenge. I mean "how bad could it be?"
