Every 17 minutes someone in Yorkshire is told they have cancer.

Yorkshire Cancer Research exists so that more people can live longer, healthier lives, free of cancer. Thanks to our kind supporters, we bring vital cancer research to Yorkshire and pioneer new and innovative services for people with cancer. These life-giving medical breakthroughs are helping more people survive cancer – here in Yorkshire, and beyond.

Our independent charity has been funding cancer research and saving lives since 1925 – here in Yorkshire, and beyond.

“This Christmas, I’m shining a light on the research that has given me a quality of life I could only have dreamed of at the very start of my journey.”

After David was diagnosed with bowel cancer, his surgeon recommended FOxTROT, a clinical trial funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research that has been found to improve bowel cancer survival rates.

As part of the trial, David received chemotherapy before surgery to remove his tumour. The tumour shrank by one third, making surgery more straightforward and less invasive.

Having recovered from surgery and four more rounds of post-surgery chemotherapy under FOxTROT, David is now having six-monthly checks to hopefully confirm he remains cancer-free.

Because he was sadly in hospital last Christmas Day due to illness following surgery, David is now looking forward to spending an "extra special" Christmas with his family this year. He is dedicating one Yorkshire Star to his wife Anne, for being "my absolute rock", and another to his surgeon, Mr Richard Baker.

See your star shine!
