Walking the Camino Ingles - for Yorkshire 2025

This May, Fraz and I are walking the Camino Ingles, also known as ‘The English Way’ from Ferrol to Santiago de Compostela in Northern Spain. It’s 74 miles over 7 days, eek!

This is a first for us, so it will be an adventure but also a challenge! I am breaking in my Hoka’s, tackling gym sessions as well as my 10k steps when working in our fab Selby shop. Meanwhile, Fraz is doing all the donkey work planning flights, accomodation & kit needed. One of my biggest challenges will be to pack light .. my nickname of ‘the bag lady’ is very appropriate as the kitchen sink follows me on most of my travels.

I am looking forward to following the footsteps of traders & pilgrims from years past, enjoying the landscapes, personal reflections & sampling Galician hospitality!

Added to which I will be Walking For Yorkshire, joining people across Yorkshire raising money for vital research and pioneering services that will help save lives in Yorkshire.

Any donations would be amazing, but no pressure at all. I will post highlights once safely home with my feet up & enjoying my fave cuppa tea. Big hugs .. Vik xx

Well that was an amazing life experience, and I would recommend if you are thinking of undertaking one of the Caminos just do it.

We walked for 6 days from Ferrol to Santiago carrying our packs .. mine was minus the kitchen sink and weighed 8kg.
The Hoka trainers were the DB’s and no blisters thankfully.

I was uncertain that I could do the 118 km, whether I had the physical & mental strength  to last the distance. I surprised myself & my husband! The meditative action of walking, seeing something new round the next corner, changing landscapes, seeing the Spanish living their daily lives.

We met  all nationalities along the way, so many kind, interesting people, all with a common goal of walking the Camino. Language was no barrier, so many laughs. People exchanged their life stories & asked about your life, your family, the lack of auto biographical conversations was a highlight  .. there are some class people in the world. I loved feeling part of a European community .. after the misery of Brexit, we are still Europeans no matter what the politicians say, such a comfort.
We had everything we needed on our backs - all the stuff we think we need in life - we so don’t.. learning to simplify life is something I will take from this experience.

We had all weathers, missing some of the most torrential rain with some very welcome cafe pit stops. As a lifetime tea lover, I developed a cafe con leche fix which gave me the boost to tackle the many hill inclines!

It was emotional entering Santiago Cathedral plaza, seeing all the other Pilgrims who had finished not only the Camino Inglés but other Spanish, French and Portuguese Caminos that all finish in Santiago.

A physical, mental and emotional challenge but such a wonderful opportunity to reset, re centre and be so thankful for my life. Remembering family and friends lost but feeling they were cheering me on in spirit.

Knowing I was doing my small part in raising awareness and funds for Yorkshire Cancer Research helping the people in Yorkshire avoid, survive and cope with Cancer.
My walk for Yorkshire T-shirt started many conversations as we relaxed after the days walk.
Thank you to everyone for your support and well wishes .. bless you xx
