We Walk for Yorkshire - Workplaces

We Walk for Yorkshire

I’m taking part in We Walk for Yorkshire, the annual walking challenge organised by Yorkshire Cancer Research. I’ll be joining others across Yorkshire and beyond, to collectively walk 35,000 miles in May to help fund life-saving cancer research.

Why 35,000? That’s the number of people who are told they have cancer in Yorkshire every year. By walking in May, I’m helping save lives in our region.

By taking part, I’m helping to shine a light on the need for new and better ways to prevent, detect and treat cancer in our region.

By supporting my fundraising, you’ll be directly contributing to vital research and pioneering new services that will benefit people with cancer in Yorkshire now, and in the future.

Thank you for anything you’re able to donate. It will make a real difference.

Official walk #5 - Derwent Reservoir

Sunday 17th May
A proper lovely walk this one, I probably do this walk at least 4 times a year, so I knew what to expect but this time I had the pleasure of bringing Will, Paul, Becky and Grace along with me for the ride this time! Despite the weather (a chilly 13°C) I also managed to take a dip in the water at Slippery Stones, where the water was considerably colder than that I can assure you! It was a 10/11 mile walk today, a few challenging areas but mostly quite sedate and enjoyable!

Official Walk #4 - Solomon's Temple

Sunday 17th May
This was a short but lovely walk in Buxton. I was delighted to be able to bring my manager Sarah on this walk as well, as for many reasons she is needed elsewhere usually so it was lovely to have her accompany us on our trip! We had a great day weather wise and much enjoyed a traipse around the nearby woodland and then eventually to the top of the folly (pictured). Ending of course with a little picnic! Thank you to Tom, Becky and Sarah for accompanying me on this lovely day 💖

Official walk #3 Chatsworth pt 2: Electric Booglaoo

Monday 11th May
A bit like going over old ground here, except this time we went further up into the Chatsworth Estate. A lot of pleasant woodland and also some nice lakes! The additional points of intrigue being the aqueduct and the Hunting Tower, very impressive to see, albeit good weather making the aqueduct look like little more than a broken bridge (not that I'm complaining, I was hoping for dry weather). All in all, good company and great views!

Official walk #2 Chatsworth!

Wednesday 6th May
Shorter one at Chatsworth done today, the weather was good, the company fantastic and we all got out and had a great day walking together, again the weather was forecast to be bad however we only had sunshine! Can only assume the weather is trying it's best for us and giving us a great start to our walks!
Big thanks to Becky and Paul today for being excellent company!

Official walk #1 Calver

Tuesday 5th May
Did our first official shop walk today!

Weather was reported to be terrible, however when we arrived we had nothing but sunshine! Was only a short 2.5 mile walk today but got us into the swing of things, had the chance to say hello to a few local faces and let people know why we were out and about!

All in all, a successful first trip!
