We Walk for Yorkshire 2025

This May, I’m taking part in the Yorkshire Cancer Research “We Walk for Yorkshire” in memory of my wonderful family members – The Three R’s:

My brave mum Rita died from Ovarian cancer aged just 45.

Richard, father to my three children, died from Oesophageal cancer aged 60.

Russell, lovely father to my sister-in-law and grandpa to my nieces, died from Pancreatic cancer aged 72.

I have set myself the goal of running 300km in a month – 100km for each of these special people. This is a mammoth challenge, but one I am determined to complete with the support of my family, friends and colleagues.

Every 17 minutes, someone in Yorkshire is told they have cancer. In May, I’ll be joining people across Yorkshire to step out in the charity's 100th year and help raise £100,000 to bring more cancer cures to our region.

Having worked at the charity for 7 years, I have seen first-hand the incredible impact that research has on people with cancer, from detecting cancers early to helping people prepare for, and recover from their cancer treatment through the pioneering cancer exercise programme Active Together.

If it was not for research and the discovery of the BRCA genes then I would almost definitely not be here to undertake this challenge so I am also running for all the brave BRCA carriers taking courageous decisions and owning their own futures.
